Cairns Regional Council

Cairns Regional Council was formed on 15 March 2008, as a result of the State Governments merger of Cairns City and Douglas Shire Councils.

The new Council has been created to serve the community of the Cairns Regional area. The result will mean a more efficient level of service delivery to all residents and a stronger long-term future for the Region.

The Cairns Region is home to the Great Barrier Reef and the oldest, continuously surviving rainforest on earth. We are proud to be the custodians of these two World Heritage listed icons.
