About the directory
Public library services within Queensland are predominantly provided by Local Governments. There are 74 Local Government regions within Queensland and over 300 public libraries.
This directory provides access to information about individual library services within Queensland with links to related Local Government information.
You can browse or search this directory. Access to information about public libraries is provided via alphabetical browse lists or by using the search box provided.

Types of services
The type of public library service provided by each Local Government is indicated on the service's page, and is one of the following.
- Country Lending Service (CLS)
- The Country Lending Service is provided by the Public Library Services program of the State Library of Queensland in partnership with Local Governments that have populations under 20,000. These libraries receive bookstock every quarter from Public Library Services on an exchange basis.
- Independent
- Many Local Governments provide a free, independent library service, which receives some State Government funding for library resources.
- Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC)
- Indigenous Knowledge Centre services are provided by State Library of Queensland in partnership with Local Governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community councils throughout Queensland.
