High quality public library services are provided through a partnership between local governments and the State Library of Queensland.  Over 340 public libraries within 74 Local Governments currently benefit from this partnership in their efforts to meet the library needs of Queensland residents.

This directory provides access to information about individual library services within Queensland with links to related Local Government information.

The type of public library service provided by each Local Government is indicated on the service's page, and is one of the following.

Country Lending Service (CLS)

The Country Lending Service is provided by the Public Library Services program of the State Library of Queensland in partnership with Local Government. These libraries receive bookstock every quarter from Public Library Services on an exchange basis.

 

Independent

Many Local Governments provide a free, independent library service, which receives some State Government funding for library resources.

 

Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC)

Indigenous Knowledge Centre services are provided by State Library of Queensland in partnership with Local Governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community councils throughout Queensland.

The Directory is updated regularly by State Library of Queensland staff. Public library staff are also encouraged to update their own details in the directory. See the instructions for editing your library details.
